Verizon Communications-the second largest U.S. phone company is incurring a $970 million expense. The cost may reduce corporate profits by as much as $14 billion as companies account for the impact of the health care reforms. Verizon said the law may have significant implications for both retirees and employers due to making retiree benefits less valuable.

This heath care bill is a joke. I cannot believe so many dumb ass Americans let the three stooges (Obama, Pelosi, and Reed incase your a moron and did not know) walk all over the constitution and your rights. This health care bill is a huge detriment to our society, our economy, and our way of life. There will be even more companies forced to lay off workers in order to keep there profits up. The only way to fix this problem is to elect REPUBLICANS. Republicans can get into office and fix this health care overhaul. We can have the health care that we want but without these high costs. Tort reform is the platform both Mccain and Obama ran on. Obama did not include this into his plan, yet another one of his lies.
ReplyDeleteI feel like one of the few who actually approve of the health care reform. But that thought aside, I think if Verizon does raise their prices, in which the article implies it will do, then they will actually lose a lot of business. Unless every single cell phone carrier raises their prices to match (since many will be affected), then why would customers stick with the one who is rising?
ReplyDeleteI hate corporations like this who act as if offering their employees health care coverage is such a huge burden. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but it can also help a lot of people. And if money if their highest priority, then I really can't even try to feel sorry for them.
companies have to be profitable. not saying that health care will make or break any business. but average people own shares in these companies. if they stop making profits they share prices will fall and average joes may lose money because of it. money is the reason business is done. and if this healthcare reform ends up jeaopardizing the profits of businesses that employ real people, then they will simply have lay offs.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely astonishing. $970 million i cant even phathom that amount of money. Verizon is one of those business that wants the most amount of profits for the higher up, and would rather cut workers that need the money rather then just get a 2 million dollar bonus instead of a 14 million dollar bonus, why cant they just be happy they are already millionare's. When is enough, enough? I think this is sad because you know it will ultimately hurt the middle to lower class people because verizon is going to try and cut costs and make up for their $14 billion dollar profit loss. Im not saying that the health care plan is good, but it is good that big businesses arent getting away with tax exemptions anymore.
